Lately I’ve been digging into dynamic sounds. I’ve been thinking about how great it would be if you could generate sounds for anything. Just imagine a dynamically generated background-tone or vibe when reading a story on your pc. It would greatly improve the reading experience and might suck you even deeper into the story. Maybe you could even generate sounds from visuals, so you can listen to your visuals! Hell, let’s take it even a step further, maybe this is a beautiful way to “show” the visually impaired how something looks like.

What inspired me to start this search was Brian Eno’s iPhone app: Bloom

This movie requires Flash Player 9

In the past week I also downloaded the trial for Max/MSP, an interactive graphical programming environment for music, audio, and media. I’m definitely going to experiment with this program and learn as much about this type of sound-creation as possible.

Another thing I encountered today was Sonoflash. They offer Flash Components which you can use and modify with some parameters. In my opinion a great way to bring this concept to some working applications.

When the Multitouch Wall that my roommate and me are building is finished my first mission will be to make something like Brian Eno’s Bloom app for our nice big screen! Stay tuned!
